Welcome back to the blog! I hope you had a great week! Today, I though't I'd go over some of the apps I believe are must-haves for most musicians. There are a lot of great apps for all different professions, and I hope to make this a regular part of the blog!
Let's jump in!
1: Guitar Tabs. This one is pretty essential, and you'll probably find it on most musicians phones! Guitar Tabs is a site/app containing a massive database of songs. Lyrics, Chords, Tabs, it's all there! The free version let's you do most everything, while the "Pro" or paid version has extra features like video tutorials and the such. It's a very powerful platform! The app even has features like a tuner, metronome and chord library. I'd definitely recommend checking it out, especially if you're planning on doing any covers. Check it out on the App Store here, or the Google Play store here.
2: Roadie Tuner. Pretty self explanatory, but every musician needs a tuner! Of course most of the time it's standard to have a physical tuner on your instrument. It's still pretty helpful to have an app just in case! I've found this one to be accurate and reliable. It's a very simple interface and provides user-friendly navigation. This app also has another feature that's pretty impressive. There's a physical product called the Roadie Tuner that you can also purchase. This is essentially an automatic tuner. It's a handheld device that connects via bluetooth to the app. Once connected, choose from a number of preset tunings (like Standard, Half Step, Full Step etc.) or create your own. Then, place the nozzle-like part of the tuner over your guitar's tuning key, and with your phone close by, pluck a string. The app will detect the strings sound through your phone's microphone, and the Roadie Tuner will automatically turn your guitar's tuning key for you, and perfectly tune the string. It's an impressive device, and works extremely well! But, if you just want a solid tuner app, it also has a simple visual tuner built in. Find it on the App Store here, or the Google Play store here. And buy the automatic tuner accessory here.
3: Shazam. A classic! Most people probably know this one, but to those that aren't familiar with it, this app can listen and accurately tell you what song is currently playing. If you're out and about, hear a really catchy tune, and need to know what it is or where you can listen to it, Shazam it! The app has a simple interface with a large and prominent "Shazam" button. Once you press the button, the app will start to listen for music. You'll obviously have to be close enough to the source for your phones microphone to pick up the song, but it can be surprisingly accurate nonetheless. Find it on the App Store here, or the Google Play store here.
4: GarageBand. This one's been around for a long time! Sadly not available for Android, but still a solid application! GarageBand is a feature-packed music recording app. Everything from software instruments, to direct input through adapters, to vocals and effects! It's got pretty much everything. The interface is simple and user-friendly, and it has so many customizations and options, you have virtually endless possibilities. Download it from the App Store here.
5: Uberchord. If you're a guitar player, you've undoubtedly had one of those moments where you play a chord and just can't figure out what it is! This can be quite frustrating at times. And that's where this app comes in. Uberchord has a feature that will display in real-time exactly what chord you'r playing. This is incredibly helpful! The app also has what looks to be some pretty powerful guitar lessons. The chord recognition is an added feature, but the main focus of the app is teaching guitar. You can find it on the App Store here. Unfortunately only iOS compatible!
And that's all I've got today! I hope you enjoyed, and as I said at the beginning I'd love to make this a regular series on the blog. So drop a comment below if you have any ideas for the five best apps of another category!
